Legion Riders, police escort Marine vet
EVANS CITY — Led by Evans City-Seven Fields Regional Police officers, 22 members of the Butler County American Legion Riders escorted one of their own to his place of burial at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies on Monday.
The remains of John A. Moore, a 79-year-old U.S. Marine Corps veteran from Butler who died May 22, was escorted from a private Mass at St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in Butler to Evans City and then to the cemetery in Washington County.
Moore, a member of American Legion Post 117 in Butler and the Legion Riders, volunteered at VA Butler Healthcare and was a member of the Bantam Marine Detachment 743 of the Marine Corps League.“He was very active in the veteran community, said Al Worsley, first vice commander of Legion Post 778 in Lyndora and a legion rider.Evans City Mayor Dean Zinkhann said it was nice to see people outside to watch the escort and wave flags even though it was a solemn occasion.“He was an honored veteran who served so much for our county and our community,” Zinkhann said.
