This tractor-trailer overturned Tuesday afternoon along Route 422 in Summit Township after a two-vehicle crash. The driver, Ryan S. Kimmel, 37, of Johnstown, was flown to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh with unknown injuries.

SUMMIT TWP — State police have identified the drivers in a two-vehicle crash on Route 422 on Tuesday afternoon that left one in need of medical treatment at a Pittsburgh hospital.

The wreck occurred around 3:10 p.m. when a tractor-trailer driven by Ryan S. Kimmel, 37, of Johnstown, Cambria County, rolled onto its roof between the Jefferson Street and Mitchell Hill Road exits, state police said.

A medical helicopter flew Kimmel to Allegheny General Hospital with unknown injuries. His condition was not available Wednesday.

The other driver, Gregory M. Ostwinch, 47, of Butler, was not injured in the crash, which closed the busy highway for several hours, authorities said.

Kimmel was traveling east in the right lane and tried to pass a vehicle when his rig struck the passenger side of Ostwinch's Volkswagen GTI, according to a police report.

The car traveled into a concrete barrier and the tractor-trailer went off the south side of the road and hit a guardrail and concrete barrier and continued into an embankment.

The rig traveled over a hillside and overturned on the highway, police said. Both drivers were wearing seat belts.

The Oneida Valley Volunteer Fire Department assisted at the scene.
