Demolition begins at Sheetz site
BUTLER TWP — Demolition of the Sheetz on Evans City Road at Meridian Road is under way.
Sheetz is planning to build a new, updated store on the site and an adjacent lot after the existing store and a house on the adjacent lot, which Sheetz purchased, are demolished.
Crews arrived Wednesday to prepare the buildings for demolition which started Thursday.
Since last week, firefighters from the Butler, Butler Township and Unionville fire departments have used the store and house for training exercises.
Chris Switala, chief of the Butler and Butler Township fire departments, said commercial structures, such as the Sheetz store, rarely become available for training and firefighters welcomed the opportunity.
The new store, which will have drive-through food service, is expected to open in the fall or winter.
