10:05 a.m. Saturday — Benjamin P. Washington, 32, was arrested on charges he assaulted a woman and her two children during a domestic dispute at their home on Bredin Street. The woman told police that Washington pushed her against the wall, grabbed her 14-year-old daughter by the throat and tossed her onto the ground, and pushed her 10-year-old daughter to the ground, according to charging documents. The defendant is also accused of sending a threatening text to the woman, telling her he was going to kill her.

He reportedly drove away in a sport utility vehicle following the dispute. Police eventually stopped Washington on Route 422 about one mile before the Lyndora exit. A search of the vehicle, documents said, turned up a Mason jar with suspected marijuana.

Washington was arraigned on charges of simple assault, terroristic threats, possession of a small amount of marijuana, driving with a suspended license and driving without a license. He was placed in Butler County Prison on $50,000 bail following arraignment.

4:27 p.m. March 22 — Daniel N. Mukaabya, 31, of Butler was arrested on charges he stole $2,078.10 in winning games of skill tickets from George’s Unique Gifts and Supplies on North Main Street. Police said video surveillance helped them identify Mukaabya, who admitted to taking and cashing in the tickets, according to court documents. He was arraigned on a felony count of theft and placed in the county prison on $10,000 bail.

3 p.m. March 30 — Larry W. Hill, 52, of Kittanning was arrested for drunken driving after he fell asleep while attempting to get a car wash in front of a trooper at the GetGo store in Buffalo Township. He is charged with driving under the influence.

7:55 p.m. March 24 — Police arrested an Erie woman for being more than three times the state’s legal limit for alcohol on Route 8 in Center Township. Troopers found Brooke Alicia Westmoreland, no age given, after they got a call for an erratic driver.

She was in a convenience store parking lot, leaning against her car, according to court documents. She claimed she had “a glass of wine” but failed field sobriety tests.

A subsequent breath test showed Westmoreland’s blood-alcohol level was 0.261 percent. In Pennsylvania, a level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated.

She is charged with driving under the influence, driving with an open container of alcohol, public drunkenness, failing to keep right, illegally passing another vehicle, disregarding traffic lanes and careless driving.

March 11 — Jamie A. Broerman, 47, of Cranberry Township was charged with drunken driving stemming from a February traffic stop in Clay Township. Police said he was stopped about 2 a.m. Feb. 10 after crossing both the center and fog lines on Euclid Road.

Broerman admitted that he was coming from a local bar where he had “a couple beers,” according to court documents. He showed impairment during field sobriety tests and was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test.

Toxicology results showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.073 percent. Despite the level being under the state’s legal limit, police charged him with DUI for being “incapable of driving safely.” He also is charged with failing to keep right, disregarding traffic lanes and careless driving.

March 7 — An Armstrong County man was charged with DUI in connection with a one-vehicle wreck earlier this year in Clearfield Township. Matthew J. Claypoole, 31, of Worthington about 11:50 p.m. Jan. 9 crossed the center of Burke Road, traveled off the road and struck a bush. Police said Claypoole acknowledged that he had consumed alcohol before driving. A breath test showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.170 percent. He is charged with DUI, driving without a license, failing to keep right, disregarding traffic lanes, careless driving and reckless driving.

March 8 — Scot C. Wallace, 61, of Evans City was arrested on charges he attempted to unlawfully buy a long gun last year at a Clearview Mall store in Center Township.

Police said Wallace on Dec. 4 gave inaccurate information on a background check form while trying to purchase a rifle at Dunham’s Discount Sports. The would-be purchase was denied after his information was entered into the Pennsylvania Instant Check system, which is operated by state police.

Wallace was arraigned on charges of unlawfully attempting to buy a firearm, a felony, and unsworn falsification to authorities, a misdemeanor. He was released on $30,000 unsecured bail following arraignment.

March 7 — Police charged an Ohio man with using a Cherry Township woman’s personal information to create a PayPal account in November. The defendant, Jared A. Beck, 37, of Ravenna, previously knew the victim, according to court documents. Beck, in a police interview Feb. 13, denied setting up the account and using the woman’s information. He is charged with a misdemeanor count of identity theft.

March 6 — Police obtained an arrest warrant for a Venango County man on charges that he illegally tried to a buy a firearm two years ago at a Washington Township gun store.

Robin L. Edson, 54, of Franklin is accused of providing false information on a required background check form on April 11, 2017, when he attempted to buy a rifle at Logan’s Gun Gallery, according to court documents. Police said that when his information was entered into the Pennsylvania Instant Check system, he was denied the purchase.

Edson is charged with unlawfully attempting to buy a firearm, a felony, and unsworn falsification to authorities, a misdemeanor.

2:41 a.m. March 7 — Larry E. Schad, 65, of Butler Township was arrested for drunken driving on Route 68 in Summit Township. Police said he was pulled over for having an expired license plate on his pickup truck. A breath test subsequently showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.97 percent. In addition to DUI, Schad is charged with driving an unregistered vehicle.
