12:18 p.m. Sunday — Bryan W. Gillespie, 33, allegedly strangled his pregnant girlfriend during a domestic dispute at his home in the 300 block of East Locust Street.
Police obtained a felony arrest warrant for Gillespie, who drove away after the alleged assault.
The victim told police that the defendant grabbed her by the throat and slammed her into a kitchen wall, according to court documents. She recounted that he shoved her against the table and threw her to the floor.
Police said the woman had redness around her throat. She told authorities that she is pregnant but she refused medical treatment at the scene, telling them she would take herself to the hospital later.
Gillespie is charged with a felony count of strangulation and a misdemeanor count of simple assault.
Feb. 15 — Three people were charged with having drug contraband stemming from a traffic stop the previous week on South Main Street near West Campbell Street.
Police said they stopped the car, driven by Hillary E. Consla, 38, of Franklin Township, shortly after midnight Feb. 9 for a faulty license plate light.
Consla was subsequently arrested, according to court documents, when police learned she was wanted on a bench warrant. A search of her purse turned up two metal push rods and a plastic container with two cotton balls that had white powder residue on them.
Police said Consla’s two passengers — Todd V. Scialabba, 46, of New Castle and Kevin J. Wolf, 33, of Butler — also were found with suspected contraband. Scialabba is accused of having a used syringe and Wolf allegedly had two drug-smoking pipes.
All three defendants are charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

Tuesday — A three-time convicted shoplifter was arrested for felony shoplifting in connection with a Feb. 3 incident at the Butler Commons’ Walmart.
Police said the defendant, Alice R. Conti, 61, of New Castle, who was previously banned from Walmart stores, was caught about 3:15 p.m. Feb. 3 taking merchandise valued at $29.83.
She was arraigned Tuesday on a felony count of retail theft and a summary count of defiant trespass, and released on her own recognizance.
11:57 p.m. Monday — Jennifer M. Mullen, 46, who is homeless, was arrested after police allegedly found her with Suboxone at the Super 8 hotel on Route 8 south.
Police said they found Mullen at the hotel after being called there for a woman yelling and acting up in the lobby. Officers suspected she was intoxicated and took her into custody.
At the station, according to court documents, she was searched and found with 12 pieces of Suboxone, a narcotic-based drug prescribed to treat opioid addiction. Police said she did not have a prescription for the drug.
Mullen was arraigned on charges of possession of a controlled substance, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness. She was placed in the Butler County Prison on $10,000 bail following arraignment.
Feb. 15 — Two men are charged in connection with the theft of a purse in December from a store at Moraine Pointe Plaza.
Police said the victim was shopping at the Giant Eagle and had left her purse on the cash register counter shortly after noon Dec. 18 when the defendants — Robert J. Wilhelm, 40, of Petrolia and Randall A. Peevey, 40, of Lyndora — allegedly took it.
Inside the purse, according to a police report, was $554 in currency.
Wilhelm is charged with theft of mislaid or lost property, conspiracy and receiving stolen property. Peevey is charged with receiving stolen property and conspiracy.

12:57 a.m. Sunday — Joseph A. Rosenberger, 32, was arrested after police say they found him with heroin at his apartment on High Street.
Officers headed to Rosenberger’s home after one 911 caller reported hearing crashing” type noises there. While en route, police said, a second caller reported that it “sounds like someone is being murdered.”
Police showed up and heard the defendant “screaming, yelling and banging” in his apartment, according to court documents. Once inside and talking with Rosenberger, officers noticed four stamp bags of suspected heroin.
A field test of the alleged drugs, documents said, showed they contained heroin and amphetamine.
District Judge Bill O’Donnell arraigned Rosenberger on charges of possession of a controlled substance and disorderly conduct. He was placed in the Butler County Prison on $5,000 bail following arraignment.

4:42 p.m. Sunday — Elizabeth C. Stewart, 35, of Chicora lost control of her sport utility vehicle which rolled over on snow-covered Route 308 in Center Township. She was not hurt but her vehicle had to be towed.
Sunday — Police reported they are investigating last week’s burglary of a barn in Connoquenessing Township. The unknown burglar between 4 p.m. Feb. 11 and 10 a.m. Feb. 12 got into the barn on Prospect Road through an unlocked door. No property appeared to be taken.

11:17 p.m. Feb. 10 — Two women were injured when their car struck a tree in Richland Township. Andrea L. Budmark, 37, of Butler told police that the wreck happened on Route 58 just west of Shoup Road when she swerved to avoid a deer.
Budmark and her passenger, Tia R. Durham, 21, of Butler, were both taken by Emlenton Ambulance to Clarion Hospital with apparent minor injuries. Both were wearing seat belts.
Police cited Budmark for careless driving.
2:20 a.m. Feb. 9 — Carla D. Snyder, 60, of Eau Claire lost control of her pickup truck and struck a utility pole along Route 58 in Richland Township. She was not injured. Her pickup had to be towed.
