11:36 a.m. Jan. 28 — Matthew L. Summerville, 39 was arrested after he was found with drug contraband during a state parole check at his apartment on Second Avenue.

Police, who assisted parole officers in the check, said they seized several empty drug stamp bags, used syringes, a crack pipe and spoon with suspected drug residue. Summerville allegedly admitted the items were his.

He is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

3:17 a.m. Jan. 24 — Christopher J. Melvin, 28, of Ambridge, Beaver County, was found with suspected marijuana and other contraband after a suspicious person’s call on Spooner Drive.

Melvin told police that he got lost while driving and pulled over because his cell phone ran out of power, according to court documents. He also allegedly admitted to having recently smoked marijuana.

Police searched his sport utility vehicle and found a baggie of suspected marijuana in the center console.

He is charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

6:10 p.m. Sunday — A vehicle previously reported stolen from West Virginia was found abandoned on Interstate 79 northbound near the Portersvile exit in Muddy Creek Township. The West Virginia State Police is investigating the stolen vehicle case.

8:35 a.m. Sunday — A pickup truck driven by Stephen L. Herman, 57, of Butler struck a sport utility vehicle on McCandless Road in Center Township. Kolby R. Welling, 26, of Butler was the other driver.

Police said that after the collision, Welling’s vehicle struck a fence. Both drivers were wearing seat belts and no injuries were reported.

Herman was cited for disregarding traffic lanes.

1:49 p.m. Saturday — At least one person was injured in a two-vehicle crash on Route 356 just south of Grohman Road in Summit Township. Police identified the drivers as Kevin M. Dubac, 61, of Tarentum, Allegheny County, and Michelle L. Rhoads, 43, of Washington, Pa.

Details of the wreck were not immediately available.

Rhoads was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with a suspected minor injury. Her two passengers — Chandler M. Bell, 18, and a 14-year-old girl, both also of Washington — were taken to the Butler hospital to be examined for possible injuries.

Saturday — A GMC Sierra pickup truck was reported stolen from the owner’s detached garage on Miller Road in Muddy Creek Township. The pickup was apparently taken between 8:30 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. Saturday.

8:49 a.m. Friday — Christopher G. Cubero, 47, of West Sunbury lost control of his SUV after swerving to avoid an unidentified vehicle in his lane and struck a guardrail on Route 8 just south of Staff Road in Brady Township.

5:20 p.m. Thursday — James E. Acquavita, 58, of Butler was hurt in a two-vehicle crash in Center Township. Police said the accident occurred when Acquavita turned in front of another vehicle at Dufty and Mercer roads.

He was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with an apparent minor injury. Randy L. Neely, 33, of Boyers was the other driver. Both drivers and a passenger in Neely’s vehicle were all wearing seat belts. Police cited Acquavita for a stop sign violation.

6:45 a.m. Friday — A car driven by Dillon J. Hershelman, 24, of Saegertown, Crawford County, struck a concrete barrier on I-79 southbound in Harmony. Hershelman, who was wearing a seat belt, was not hurt, but his car had to be towed.

Police cited him for driving too fast for conditions.

10:06 p.m. Jan. 30 — Michael J. Bozik, 30, of Butler was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence on New Castle Road at Barracks Road in Butler Township. Police said he was stopped for a traffic violation.

The investigation subsequently determined that his blood-alcohol level was 0.230 percent, or nearly three times the state’s 0.08 percent legal limit.

In addition to DUI, Bozik is charged with disregarding traffic lanes, failing to use turn signals, careless driving, littering and not wearing a seat belt.

6:49 a.m. Jan. 30 — Scott C. Murawski, 20, of Boyers lost control of his car and struck a guardrail on Interstate 79 in Jackson Township. No one was injured, but the car had to be towed.

1:57 a.m. Jan. 25 — Kevin M. Victor, 29, of Butler was allegedly caught with drug contraband after a traffic stop in Butler. Police said they pulled him over when he crossed the double yellow line on Mercer Street.

A subsequent search of Victor’s car, according to court documents, turned up a marijuana pipe under the front passenger seat.

He is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, failing to keep right, careless driving and failing to notify authorities of a change of address.

4:39 p.m. Friday — A car driven by Hannah R. Bork, 19, of Zelienople rear-ended a pickup truck on Interstate 79 in Cranberry Township. Robert Gibbons, 50, of Harmony, was the other driver. No one was hurt.

Bork was cited for following too closely to another vehicle.

4:23 p.m. Friday — A patch of ice was blamed for a two-vehicle crash on South Benbrook Road in Center Township. Police said the accident occurred when a vehicle driven by Nathan D. Kline, 20, of Mars struck the back of a car that was turning onto Lions Road.

Nicole K. Weigle, 21, of East Palestine, Ohio, was the other driver. No one was injured, but both vehicles had to be towed. Police cited Kline with driving at an unsafe speed.

4:02 p.m. Friday — A sport utility vehicle driven by Charlotte E. Lynch, 27, of Butler rear-ended another SUV on Interstate 79 northbound in Cranberry Township. Neither Lynch nor the other driver, Cheryl. A. Pohrer, 56, of Harmony, was injured.

Police cited Lynch for following too closely to another vehicle.

2:53 p.m. Friday — Kasey M. McCracken, 21, of New Castle was charged with driving at an unsafe speed after she lost control of her SUV in the northbound lane of Interstate 79 in Cranberry Township.

Police say McCracken’s vehicle hit a guardrail on the right side of the highway and ended facing north on the east berm. She was not injured.

4:11 p.m. Jan. 31 — One person was hurt when police said Jacob E. McElravy, 24, of Chicora crashed his car into the back of a pickup truck on Route 68 in Donegal Township.

The other driver, Thomas E. Fallecker, 57, of East Butler, was stopped with his turn signal on waiting to turn left when the wreck occurred, according to a police report.

Fallecker was apparently injured, but he refused hospital treatment. McElravy was not hurt, but his car had to be towed. Both drivers were wearing seat belts.

Police cited McElravy for driving at an unsafe speed.

11:45 p.m. Jan. 19 — Donald L. Scherer, 43, of Chicora was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence after his pickup slammed head-on into a tree along East Slippery Rock Road in Donegal Township.

Scherer suffered an apparent minor injury. His passenger, a 16-year-old Chicora boy, was not injured. Both occupants were wearing seat belts. The truck had to be towed.

9:12 a.m. Friday — A Harrisville woman was hurt when she lost control of her car and rolled over on Route 8 in Victory Township. The car ended on its wheels.

Chelcie A. Ketterer, 26, was taken to Grove City Medical Center with unknown injuries.
