Friday — Police obtained an arrest warrant for Amber L. Walsh, 24, who has no known address, on charges that she passed a counterfeit $50 bill Jan. 18 at the Dollar General store on North Main Street.

The clerk took the bill — however, she immediately became suspicious, according to court documents. When the clerk asked a co-worker for assistance, the suspect allegedly took the bill, which was on the counter, and left the store.

Police reviewed surveillance video and posted photos of the woman on their Facebook page. On Jan. 21, Walsh’s father contacted police after recognizing his daughter in the photos, documents said.

Walsh messaged police on Facebook, allegedly admitting that she was involved in the incident. Police charged her with felony forgery.

Thursday — Hubert F. Lykins Jr., 45, of Emlenton was arraigned on charges that he illegally tried to a buy a firearm last year at a store at Clearview Mall in Center Township.

Lykins is accused of providing false information on a background check form that was required July 8 when he attempted to buy a Mossberg 12-gauge shotgun at Rural King, according to court documents.

Police said that when his information was entered into the Pennsylvania Instant Check system, he was denied the purchase.

He is charged with unlawfully attempting to buy a firearm, a felony, and unsworn falsification to authorities, a misdemeanor. He is free on his own recognizance.

Wednesday — Police obtained an arrest warrant for William T. Fowler, 60, of Pittsburgh in connection with an alleged illegal attempted gun buy in September at a Summit Township store.

Police said Fowler gave false background information on required paperwork Sept. 20 when he tried to buy a Mossberg .30-06 rifle at Sportsman’s Supply Co. The PIC system rejected the would-be purchase.

He is charged with unlawfully attempting to buy a firearm, a felony, and unsworn falsification to authorities, a misdemeanor.

Wednesday — Jordan M. Hyatt, 23, of Slippery Rock was charged with being more than twice the state’s legal limit for alcohol stemming from a two-vehicle crash earlier this month in Center Township.

State police said Hyatt was southbound on Route 8 approaching Mercer Road about 2:20 a.m. Jan. 19 when his car struck the back of a vehicle stopped at a red light.

The defendant admitted that he had been drinking before driving, according to court documents, and he subsequently failed field sobriety tests.

Police took him to the barracks for a breath test that showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.172 percent. In Pennsylvania, a level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated.

Hyatt is charged with driving under the influence, following too closely and careless driving.
