Wednesday — James M. Brookbank, 24, of Butler was charged with leaving a 1-year-old child under his care unsupervised last week on North Elm Street.
Police said they were called about 5:10 p.m. Oct. 5 for a report of a toddler walking down the street unattended. The caller told officers that she had seen the child outside for 10 to 15 minutes.
Police later spoke with Brookbank, according to, court documents, who told them that he was baby-sitting while the child’s parents were at work.
“Brookbank stated he was hanging out with his friends,” a police affidavit said, “and (he) lost track of (the child) for a minute.”
He is charged with a misdemeanor count of child endangerment.
[naviga:h3]Grove City Police[/naviga:h3]
7:55 a.m. Tuesday — A tractor-trailer hauling a wide load struck two utility poles along Liberty Street. The driver, David S Janke, 44, of Marion, Ark., did not stop until police pulled him over in Slippery Rock. Police cited him for hit-and-run.
Slippery Rock University Police
Oct. 9 — Police charged a Grove City teenager with inappropriately touching a woman last month at North Hall on the Slippery Rock University campus.
The alleged victim told police that Esmael J. Hazy, 18, got into her room sometime between 1:50 and 2:20 a.m. Sept. 29, without her permission, according to court documents. She said he placed his hand on her shoulders, pinned her to the wall and started to kiss her.
Hazy also is accused of grabbing her buttocks.
The woman’s roommate corroborated her account, police said.
Hazy is charged with indecent assault, defiant trespass and disorderly conduct, all misdemeanors.

Tuesday — Stacy L. McDonald, 51, of Chicora was charged with drunken driving in connection with a one-vehicle wreck last month in Oakland Township. Police said that on Sept. 9 she crashed her sport utility vehicle into a tree along Thorn Run Road just west of Center Drive.
McDonald was apparently not injured but her truck had to be towed. She was subsequently arrested after showing impairment during field sobriety testing.
Police took her to the barracks for a breath test that showed her blood-alcohol level was 0.127 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.
McDonald is charged with driving under the influence, driving at an unsafe speed, failing to keep right and careless driving.
Tuesday — Laurelai K. Nowicki, 33, of Slippery Rock was charged with DUI stemming from an August traffic stop in Slippery Rock Township. Police said they pulled her over Aug. 26 after they saw her sport utility vehicle cross the white fog line on Route 8 several times.
Police said Nowicki failed field sobriety tests and she was taken for a breath test that showed her blood-alcohol level was 0.123 percent.
In addition to DUI, Nowicki is charged with disregarding traffic lanes and careless driving.

Oct. 11 — An unknown thief stole two 12-volt car batteries from a gas well pad on Torry Island Road in West Franklin Township. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 724-543-2011.
7:25 a.m. Oct. 1 — A car driven by William R. George, 62, of Tarentum struck a tree along Route 28 north about one mile south of exit 18 in South Buffalo Township.
The accident happened, according to a police report, when George began to choke while eating crackers. He blacked out and lost control of his car, which traveled across the median and into the oncoming lane.
He regained consciousness, the report said, and swerved to avoid oncoming traffic and hit the tree. The car continued down an embankment about 350 feet. George was wearing a seat belt and was not injured.
Police cited him for disregarding traffic lanes.

Tuesday — An unknown thief stole a TomTom global positioning system device from an unlocked vehicle in the driveway of a home on Warren Road in Pine Township, Mercer County. The theft happened between midnight and 3 a.m.
