Thursday — Andrew J. McCue, 32, and Suellen M. Leitch, 23, both of Butler were allegedly caught with drugs and other contraband stemming from a disturbance call about 3:50 p.m. Aug. 7 at the Super 8 motel on Route 8 south.

Both defendants are charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.

Thursday — Police charged Ronald W. Orth, 63, of Slippery Rock in connection with an Aug. 11 shoplifting incident at the Butler Commons’ Walmart. He is charged with theft by deception, receiving stolen property and retail theft.

1:45 a.m. Aug. 11 — James E. Ragland, 49, and Danielle L. Wilson, 35, both of Butler were both charged in an incident outside the 11th Frame Bar and Grill on Fairground Hill Road.

Police said Ragland caused a disturbance by puncturing the tires of a vehicle in the porkling lot. Wilson was “visibly intoxicated,” according to a police report.

Ragland is charged with disorderly conduct and Wilson is charged with public drunkenness.

Aug. 8 — Police charged a Westmoreland County man with drunken driving stemming from a reckless driver call this month in the area of Saxonburg Road and Morton Avenue. The call about 6:30 p.m. Aug. 2 was for a driver “all over the road,” police said, and tailing other vehicles.

An officer came upon the defendant, David W. Beattie, 34, of Lower Burrell, in the driveway of a home on Morton Avenue. He was subsequently arrested for driving under the influence after failing field sobriety tests, according to court documents.

He was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test, which he refused.

Beattie is charged with DUI, driving with a suspended license, careless driving, following too closely to another vehicle, disregarding traffic lanes and driving a vehicle without valid inspection.

Aug. 7 — Barry A. Covalt, 57, of Saxonburg was charged with being more than double the state’s legal limit for alcohol stemming from a one-vehicle, rollover wreck last month on Crisswell Road.

Police said Covalt about 2:30 a.m. July 14 crashed his pickup truck into an embankment. Another man traveled by and saw the defendant lying on the roadside. The passer-by stopped and awakened Covalt.

The other man also agreed to give Covalt a ride home, where police investigating the wreck found him on the front porch, slumped over on a chair. He apologized for crashing his truck, documents said, and admitted that he had eight alcoholic drinks at a Butler Township bar that night.

He was eventually taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test that showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.162 percent. In Pennsylvania, a level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated.

Covalt is charged with DUI and careless driving.

Friday — Police reported they are investigating an attempted burglary last month in Summit Township. According to a police report, someone on July 28 tried to break into a home on Herman Road.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 724-284-8100.

Tuesday — An unknown thief stole a child’s bicycle at the Smith Grove Campground on Herman Road in Clearfield Township. The 20-inch boys’ Kent Dread bike was taken between 7:30 p.m. Aug. 11 and 7:30 p.m. Tuesday from a fenced-in yard of a permanent campsite.

The bike is described as black with bright green wheels, and lights attached to the front wheel. When last seen, according to a police report, there was a chain wrapped around the bike.

Anyone with information about the theft is asked to call police.

Monday — Jason E. Cyphert, 49, of Slippery Rock was charged with bouncing a $250 check last month at Forestville Beer on Route 8 in Mercer Township.

Police said Cyphert wrote the check on a closed account. He is charged with theft by deception.

9:29 p.m. Aug. 10 — A Tennessee man was arrested for suspected drunken driving in Jackson Township. Police stopped Michael W. Padgett, 51, of Madison for a lane violation on the 400 block of Lindsay Road.

Padgett is charged with DUI, failing to keep right, disregarding traffic lanes and making an improper turn.

[naviga:h3]State Police, Clarion[/naviga:h3]

2:29 a.m. Aug. 1 — No one was injured in a three-vehicle crash at a construction zone in northern Butler County. The chain-reaction wreck happened on Interstate 80 while one of the vehicles was conducting a rolling roadblock in conjunction with an ongoing construction project.

One of the drivers, Christopher A. Hedington, 27, of North Liberty, Ind., struck the back of a tractor-trailer driven by Norman D. Wall, 50, of Ashville, Ohio, according to a police report. The crash forced the rig into the back of the vehicle conducting the roadblock.

Hedington’s vehicle had to be towed. He was cited for following too closely to another vehicle.

[naviga:h3]State Police, Franklin[/naviga:h3]

10:03 a.m. Tuesday — No one was injured in a one-vehicle wreck in Emlenton. The crash happened when Bailey N. Bellerive, 20, of Oil City, Venango County, lost control of a car and struck a road sign and trees along Kerr Avenue.

Police cited Bellerive for driving at an unsafe speed. The car she was driving had to be towed. The Emlenton Volunteer Fire Department and Emlenton Ambulance assisted at the scene.

Tuesday — An unknown thief stole prescription medication and other property from a 36-year-old home in Emlenton.

The woman told police that she fell asleep on her porch couch and when she awoke about 2 a.m., the medication, suboxone, was gone. She also reported missing two knives, a cell phone and computer tablet.

[naviga:h3]State Police, Kittanning[/naviga:h3]

5 p.m. Aug 8 — Jeffrey D. Seefeld, 56, of Kittanning was charged with drunken driving stemming from a traffic stop at Routes 422 and 268 in East Franklin Township.

Seefeld is charged with driving under the influence, careless driving and disregarding traffic lanes.

7:50 p.m. Aug. 11 — An unknown hit-and-run driver, described as a white male, struck the back side of a car on Butler Road less than one-half mile west of Pleasant View Drive in East Franklin Township.

The other driver, a 52-year-old Kittanning man, and his passenger were not injured.

The unidentified vehicle — a white full-sized truck — was last seen traveling west toward Worthington. Police said the vehicle should have minor damage to the left side.

[naviga:h3]State Police, Punxsutawney[/naviga:h3]

Wednesday — The state police Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement cited the Cranberry Springs Development Group in Cranberry Township for violating the state liquor law between Sept. 30, 2017, and June 10.

The owner of the business, according to a police, failed to comply with the conditions of an agreement with the Liquor Control Board that placed additional restrictions on the license.

An administrative law judge will hear the case.
