Tuesday — Police obtained an arrest warrant for Michael J. Via, 35, of Parker Township on charges he used another man’s credit card, without the cardholder’s permission, to make three purchases at city stores totaling $407.09 in March.

Via is charged with felony access device fraud.

The victim notified police about 6:25 p.m. March 23 that while working as a restaurant delivery driver he discovered someone had entered his unlocked car on the 100 block of West North Street and taken several items from the center console.

Among the missing property was a cell phone, driver’s license, Social Security card and a credit card. The man contacted his bank and learned the card been used several times.

In addition to the purchases, according to court documents, someone tried unsuccessfully to make an automated teller machine withdrawal of $200.

Police reviewed surveillance video from the stores and on July 19 posted on the department’s Facebook page photos of the suspect using the cards. Tipsters identified Via, documents said.

Monday — Trevor G. Walker, 28, of Butler was charged with causing a drunken disturbance last month at a home on North Cliff Street.

Walker is accused of getting into an altercation at his uncle’s house July 20, after previously being asked multiple times to leave, according to court documents.

Police said they were eventually called to the home and arrested the defendant. He was searched and found with a used syringe in on of his pants pockets.

He is charged with disorderly conduct, possession of a controlled substance, harassment and public drunkenness.

9:50 p.m. Sunday — George L. Montgomery, 24, no known address, was arrested after police say he threatened a woman outside her home on the 400 block of Shore Street before driving away in her sport utility vehicle without her consent.

Police said after the victim notified them of the incident, according to court documents, they checked the National Crime Information Center and learned that Montgomery was wanted on a bench warrant. They also found out his driver’s license was suspended.

During a telephone call with the defendant, a police affidavit said, “he stated that he did just steal (the victim’s) vehicle and (he) was going to set it on fire.” He hung up.

Police later found the vehicle behind the woman’s apartment building. She was not home. But inside her apartment, officers found Montgomery in an upstairs bedroom.

While being taken to the patrol car, the affidavit said, he warned that the victim “will need protection from him once he gets out of jail.” He also allegedly threatened to “kick her (expletive).”

Montgomery was arraigned on charges of terroristic threats, unauthorized use of a vehicle and driving under suspension. He was placed in Butler County Prison on $5,000 bail following arraignment.

4:56 p.m. Saturday — Daniel L. Kopp, 45, of Butler was allegedly found with suspected crack cocaine and other drug contraband after he was arrested at his ex-wife’s home on South Main Street.

Police said Kopp’s former wife notified authorities that the defendant was in her basement. She also advised that she has a protection from abuse order against him, court documents said.

Officers went to the victim’s apartment where they found Kopp. A search turned up a baggies containing “suspected crack,” according to court documents.

Inside a bag belonging to him, police said, were 18 small plastic bags, which appeared to be for the purpose of packaging drugs.

Kopp was arraigned on charges of possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, and placed in the Butler County Prison on $25,000 bail in the case.

3 a.m. Saturday — A couple was arrested on charges they choked and assaulted one another during a domestic dispute at the Slippery Rock Campground on West Park Drive in Slippery Rock Township.

Austin R. Weiher, 20, of Pittsburgh and Julia M. Johnson, 18, of Leechburg, Armstrong County each claimed the other was the aggressor in the altercation.

Police got Johnson’s side of the story at Butler Memorial Hospital where she went for injuries after the alleged assault. She had redness to her neck and chest area, bruising on her hand and lip, and a possible broken finger, according to court documents.

She also told investigators that Weiher warned her if she contacted police, he would kill her.

Both defendants were arraigned on a felony charge of strangulation, a misdemeanor charge of simple assault, and a summary charge of harassment. Weiher is also charged with terroristic threats, a misdemeanor.

Weiher and Johnson are free on $5,000 unsecured bail each.
