July 30 — Dustin T. Lindsay, 33, of Butler was charged with having drug contraband stemming from a traffic stop earlier in the month in Lyndora. Police said they stopped his car about 12:20 a.m. July 20 for having a faulty rear light.
According to court documents, an officer noticed an empty stamp bag of suspected heroin on the driver’s seat. Police subsequently searched the car and found three additional empty stamp bags.
Lindsay is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and a lighting violation.
[naviga:h3]State Police, Butler[/naviga:h3]
1:12 a.m. Monday — Evan J. Luchkiw, 24, of Butler lost control of his sport utility vehicle and struck a utility pole along Ridge Road in Center Township. Police said that after the crash, he backed up the vehicle and struck another utility pole.
Luchkiw and his passenger, a 24,-year-old Butler man, fled the scene but they were quickly found, according to a police report. The SUV had to be towed.
Police said Luchkiw faces tickets for failing to immediately notify police of an accident, driving at an unsafe speed, two lane violations, careless driving and reckless driving.
12:56 a.m. Sunday — Robert G. Weismantle Jr., 42, of Slippery Rock was arrested for driving under the influence after he accidentally laid down his motorcycle while trying to make a left turn at Route 108 and Stoughton Road in Slippery Rock Township.
Police said Weismantle declined to take field sobriety, according to court documents, “stating that he was drunk.” He was taken for a breath test that showed his blood-alcohol was 0.237 percent, which is nearly three times the state’s 0.08 percent legal limit for alcohol.
In addition to DUI, he is charged with driving an unregistered vehicle and careless driving.
Aug. 1 — Two out-of-county men were charged in the investigation of a stolen all-terrain vehicle earlier this year. Jack E. Fuller II, 24, of Leechburg, Armstrong County, and Clayton C. Warrington, 22, of Franklin, Venango County, are both charged with a felony count of receiving stolen property.
Police said they were called about 1:15 a.m. June 10 after two unidentified witnesses reportedly followed and stopped one of two men riding ATVs from the Glacial Sand & Gravel Co. on West Liberty Street to the area of West Park and Zion Church roads in Worth Township.
Fuller was stopped riding a Honda ATV that was found to have been previously reported stolen, according to court documents. During an interview, he allegedly told police that Warrington had given him the vehicle.
Fuller was arraigned and released on $10,000 unsecured bail. Police obtained an arrest warrant for Warrington.
Tuesday — Tom Hodak, 59, of Middlesex Township was arraigned on charges related to a bounced check he allegedly passed to a Mercer Township business earlier this year. He is accused of issuing the $892.52 check to Montgomery Block Work for concrete that was delivered to a construction site.
The check, according to court documents, was eventually returned for insufficient funds. The business’ office manager told police that between May 12 and June 13 she had tried to contact the defendant but to no avail.
Hodak was arraigned on a felony count of theft by deception and a misdemeanor count of bad checks. He was released on $5,000 unsecured bail following arraignment.
July 30 — Allen D. Frieson, 25, of Slippery Rock was charged with driving on drugs stemming from a hit-and-run crash July 4 in Slippery Rock.
Police said the rear-end collision happened about 7 p.m. when Frieson’s sport utility vehicle hit the back of a car on South Main Street at Cornish Drive. The other driver told police the defendant fled the scene.
A trooper about 45 minutes after the wreck spoke to Frieson by telephone but he refused to meet with police, according to court documents. The trooper described the defendant’s speech as “slurred.”
Slippery Rock University police shortly after 8 p.m. notified state police that a man matching Frieson’s description had been seen walking through a field along Route 173. The trooper subsequently met up with the defendant, who failed field sobriety tests and was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test.
Toxicology results, documents said, showed he had several drugs in his system including cocaine, fentanyl and clonazepam.
Frieson is charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, driving with a suspended license, hit-and-run, following too closely to another vehicle, driving at an unsafe speed and not wearing a seat belt.
July 23 — James H. Matson, 63, of Butler was charged with drunken driving in connection with a traffic stop in Butler Township. He was pulled over about 9:35 p.m. July 20, court documents said, after police saw his pickup truck swerving in on Route 422 just east of the Lyndora exit.
He was given field sobriety tests and a preliminary breath test before being taken for a formal breath test that showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.094 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.
Matson is charged with DUI, disregarding traffic lanes, careless driving and not wearing a seat belt.
