12:27 a.m. Thursday — A fight over beer or cigarettes ended with a Butler couple injured and behind bars. Police arrested Mark A. Graham, 55, and Lorraine D. Kozub, 56, following the domestic dispute at their apartment on Spring Street.
Officers were called to the home for the altercation and found the defendants. Both appeared to be intoxicated. Kozub told police that Graham grabbed her by the arms and pulled out “chunks of her hair,” according to court documents.
Graham’s account, documents said, was that Kozub hit him in the face. He said the fight started over beer. She said the fight was about cigarettes.
Both defendants were arraigned on charges of simple assault and harassment, and were placed in the Butler County Prison on $5,000 bail each.
[naviga:h3]Slippery Rock Police[/naviga:h3]
9:50 p.m. Wednesday — Michelle L. Dipner, 45, of Slippery Rock was arrested on charges she broke into one vehicle and tried to break into another one in the rear parking lot of North Country Brewery on South Main Street.
A witness notified authorities and he subsequently pointed out the suspect, later identified as Dipner, to police, according to court documents. He recounted seeing the defendant unsuccessfully attempt to get into a Toyota pickup truck.
She then moved on to a Ford pickup, the witness said, which she entered, taking a “small stack of papers,” documents said. The witness told police that he confronted Dipner. He told her to put the property back in the vehicle and leave the premises.
Police took the defendant to the station. She admitted “going through vehicles’” documents, while trying to find “a lighter for her cigarettes.”
District Judge Bill O’Donnell arraigned Dipner on charges of theft from a vehicle and attempted theft from a vehicle. She was placed in the Butler County Prison on $5,000 bail following arraignment.
[naviga:h3]Zelienople Police[/naviga:h3]
Tuesday — An Allegheny County man was charged with drunken driving stemming from a traffic stop this month at North Green Lane and New Castle Street. Police said they stopped Brian M. Ledoux, 26, of Wexford for speeding shortly after 2:20 a.m. June 2.
Ledoux admitted that he had smoked marijuana and had “a few drinks” earlier that night, according to court documents. He was arrested after failing field sobriety tests and submitting to a portable breath test device.
The defendant was taken to UPMC Passavant in Cranberry Township for a blood test. Toxicology results were not indicated in documents.
A subsequent search of his car, police said, turned up suspected marijuana, a smoking pipe and grinder.
Ledoux is charged with driving under the influence of a combination of alcohol and a controlled substance, possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, and reckless driving.
[naviga:h3]State Police, Butler[/naviga:h3]
Tuesday — A Clearfield Township teenager was arraigned on charges he strangled and assaulted another person last month in Clearfield Township.
Timothy G. Sullivan, 19, is charged with a felony count of strangulation, a misdemeanor count of simple assault and a summary count of harassment. He was released on his own recognizance following arraignment.
Police said they were called May 21 for a report of a disabled vehicle on Route 422 east with an “out of control teenager,” according to court documents. Once there, a trooper found the victim, who had bite marks and other injuries on the neck and body.
Documents did not identify the victim. Sullivan told police that he grabbed the victim by the throat and squeezed. He also allegedly admitted he bit the victim.
June 7 — An Allegheny County man was charged with drugged driving stemming from a traffic stop last month in Buffalo Township. Matthew J. Claypoole, 30, of Oakmont was stopped about 5:30 p.m. May 11 for improperly passing another on Route 28 north.
Police said Claypoole submitted to field sobriety tests, which indicated impairment. He let troopers search his car. Inside, according to court documents, police found Suboxone and two suspected morphine pills in a plastic bag underneath the ashtray in the center console.
The defendant allegedly admitted that he had smoked marijuana and taken the prescription drug Klonopin.
He was eventually taken to ACMH Hospital in East Franklin Township, Armstrong County, for a blood test. Documents did not indicate toxicology results.
Claypoole is charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, disobeying traffic control devices, illegal passing, disregarding traffic lanes and careless driving.
June 5 — Levi W. Shuler, 20, of Clearfield Township was charged with having drug contraband stemming from a one-vehicle rollover wreck last month in Clearfield Township. Police said he lost control of his car about 5:20 p.m. May 16 and struck an embankment.
Shuler had already been taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries by the time police got to the crash scene. A trooper looked in the damaged car and noticed a suspected drug-smoking pipe, according to court documents.
The defendant is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, failing to keep right, driving at an unsafe speed, careless driving and not wearing a seat belt.
