3:58 a.m. Wednesday — Aaron T. Moyers, 40, was arrested after he allegedly assaulted his wife during a domestic dispute at their apartment in the 300 block of North Main Street.

Police said when they got the call and arrived at the home, they found Moyers outside the door of the apartment. They also noticed a small amount of blood near him and he was holding a rag to the left side of his upper chest.

He claimed his wife stabbed him with a knife. He was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital where he was treated for his wound, which was not believed to be serious.

Moyers’ wife told police that when her husband assaulted her, she got a carving knife from the kitchen for self-defense, according to count documents. She said she was holding the knife up and pointed at the defendant when he ran at her and into the knife.

Officers recovered the knife in the living room. Police said while investigating the incident they found suspected drug contraband, including 10 empty stamp bags, a marijuana pipe and two crack pipes, that belonged to the defendant.

Moyers was arraigned on charges of simple assault and possession of drug paraphernalia, and placed in the Butler County Prison on $10,000 bail.

Police said no one else has been charged but their investigation continues.

Monday — Kristi L. Bowser, 44, of Center Township was charged with drugged driving after she was found April 13 sleeping behind the wheel of her running car at South McKean and East Cunningham streets.

A caller noticed the car at the intersection about 11:55 p.m. and called 911 for a well being check of the driver.

Police said they awakened Bowser and placed her car in park. She subsequently failed field sobriety tests and was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test. Toxicology reports, court documents said, showed she had cocaine in her system.

She is charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance and driving with a suspended license.

5:05 a.m. Saturday — Police arrested Loren M. Lawrence, 28, of Butler for drunken driving at North Main and East Brady streets. Police found him asleep in the driver’s seat of a car stopped at a red light. The left turn signal was on.

An officer noticed the vehicle’s transmission was still in drive, and he put it in park, according to court documents. Lawrence, who abruptly woke up, submitted to field sobriety testing, which showed impairment.

Police took him for a breath test that indicated his blood-alcohol level was 0.129 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.

Lawrence is charged with DUI.

10:35 a.m. Friday — David C. Masdea, 46, of Butler was caught with suspected pills without a prescription following a traffic stop at Liberty and Wayne streets. He was pulled over for running a red light.

Police said Masdea also was driving under suspension, a violation for which he also was cited earlier that month, court records showed.

The defendant, police noted in charging documents, has not had a valid driver’s license since 1991.

A tow truck was called and police conducted an inventory of the car that turned up a pill bottle with unknown pills in it. The medication was later identified as eight pills of oxymorphone hydrochloride, a narcotic painkiller, and 20 pills of alprazolam, an anti-anxiety medication.

Masdea is charged with possession of a controlled substance, driving with a suspended license and driving a vehicle without valid inspection.

Wednesday — Police reported that a missing power scooter has been returned to its owner.

Authorities had been seeking the scooter, which they say belongs to an elderly, handicapped veteran who lives in the area, which broke down Tuesday along South Duffy Road near Hazlett Avenue.

Police believed someone had taken the property, believing it had been left on the side of the road as scrap. That theory turned out to be true, according to the police report.

“The person who picked up this scooter for scrap,” the report said, “has returned the scooter to the owner.”

Tuesday — Michael J. Warsing, 34, of Buffalo Township was arraigned on charges he tried to illegally buy a firearm at a Summit Township gun store last fall.

Police said Warsing allegedly provided false information on a federal form that was required Nov. 6 when he attempted to buy a 9 mm rifle at Sportsman’s Supply Company on Freeport Road,

When his information was entered into the Pennsylvania Instant Check system, an automated system by which gun dealers can determine if someone can legally buy a gun in the state, he was denied the purchase.

Warsing was arraigned on charges of unlawfully attempting to buy a firearm, a felony, and unsworn falsification to authorities, a misdemeanor. He was released on his own recognizance following arraignment.
