Probation given in stalking case
A Butler man was sentenced to probation in Butler County Court Tuesday after pleading guilty to disorderly conduct following charges of stalking.
Aaron T. Thompson, 26, was sentenced to 12 months of probation by President Judge Thomas Doerr.
Thompson pleaded guilty to misdemeanor disorderly conduct before the sentence was handed down.
He was initially charged with misdemeanor stalking and summary harassment after an incident on June 21.
The disorderly conduct charge to which he pleaded was later added, and the remaining charges were dismissed as part of the plea.
Butler police said Thompson repeatedly followed and pestered a woman in the city.
The victim notified police after Thompson came running up behind her on the 100 block of East Locust Street, according to court documents.
She told police that Thompson had been following her around town, making comments to her and showing up at her workplace.
She said on one occasion he smacked her on the buttocks and ran away.
Thompson also waived an extradition hearing Tuesday, and will be returned to Salem County, N.J., to face charges there.
