BUTLER TWP — A bomb threat discovered Wednesday at Butler Senior High School is not credible, but the district will have an increased police presence at the building for the remainder of the week, school officials said.

In a message sent to parents Superintendent Brian White Jr. said a student discovered the threat, which referenced “a future date,” in a restroom at the school at about noon Wednesday. The student alerted the building principal, who contacted Butler Township Police.

Chief John Hays said he thinks the note was found in a girls’ restroom. He did not know the specific contents of the threat.

An ensuing investigation determined that the threat wasn’t credible, White said, and the school will continue to operate on a normal schedule. He also told parents that an investigation into the threat continues.

“The school district takes all threats seriously and will engage in all appropriate disciplinary action under the student code of conduct and under Pennsylvania state law,” said White in his message to parents.

Hays said officers will continue to investigate the threat with help from school officials, though the department does not have any suspects at this time.
