Franklin Road home a total loss

Firefi ghters from Cranberry, Adams, Callery, Harmony, Evans City, Marshall and Big Knob were called to a fire that destroyed a home at 7749 Franklin Road on Tuesday evening.

CRANBERRY TWP — A fire ravaged a home on Franklin Road in the northeastern part of the township Tuesday night.

The call came in at about 9:30 p.m. for a fire in the 7700 block of Franklin Road. When crews arrived the house was fully involved, with flames coming out the roof, said Chief David Mack of Cranberry Township Volunteer Fire Company.

“For us, we call that a defensive fire,” he said. “You're basically knocking down the fire from the outside.”

Residents and pets in the home got out safely, Mack said, although the homeowner may have been injured trying to put the fire out before crews arrived on scene. The house is a total loss, Mack said.

The cause or starting point of the fast-spreading fire is unknown.

The fire was contained by around 11 p.m., although crews were called back out for a small rekindle around 3:20 a.m.

Police shut down Franklin Road in both directions while fire crews were working at the scene. Cranberry was assisted by fire departments from Harmony, Adams, Evans City, Callery and Marshall in Allegheny County and Big Knob from Beaver County.

Real estate records list Robert Espersen and Kimberly Ann Leininger as the owners of the home purchased in April 2017.
