CENTER TWP — A Butler Township woman is accused of taking $2,829 from a fast-food restaurant where she worked.

State police said Alexis R. Speicher, 20, failed to deposit money belonging to the McDonald's at Clearview Mall in Center Township last month.

Police on Monday charged Speicher with felony counts of theft by unlawful taking and theft by failure to make required disposition of funds received. Her preliminary arraignment was not immediately scheduled.

The restaurant manager notified authorities after learning there was no bank record of the evening deposits for Dec. 10. Police said they subsequently reviewed video surveillance that allegedly showed Speicher taking the deposit money from the store safe.

The woman is seen placing the money in a McDonald's paper bag and leaving, according to court documents. The video showed her getting into her boyfriend's car and driving away.

A trooper spoke to her Dec. 23 at the restaurant. Speicher admitted there was a day she forgot to drop off the deposit money but said she took it into the bank on a later day.

But she eventually notified police later that day, telling them she was “certain” that she had gotten into her boyfriend's car Dec. 10, documents said, and immediately went to the bank to make the deposit.

Police could find no deposit statements or video surveillance at the bank to corroborate her account.
