A Butler Township man was sentenced to probation Thursday in county court, after being charged with threatening a man with a claw hammer.

Travis F. Fair, 27, was sentenced to 12 months probation by Judge William Shaffer. Fair was also ordered to pay court costs and a $100 fine.

He pleaded guilty Nov. 29 to misdemeanor recklessly endangering another person.

Fair was initially also charged with misdemeanor terroristic threats, which was dismissed as part of the plea.

Butler police filed the charges after Fair threatened a man and later showed up with a claw hammer at the man's house May 17.

But Fair was the one who ended up injured and calling police.

Fair is accused of getting into an argument with 30-year-old Justin Dunkin at Dunkin's home in the 300 block of North Chestnut Street. During the altercation, according to court documents, Fair “threatened to bring a gun and shoot Dunkin in the head.”

He left but returned a short time later in a vehicle. When he stepped out of the car, he had a hammer in his hand, documents said. Dunkin punched Fair, who retreated to his car and called police.

Officers said Fair was bleeding from the left ear when they arrived.
