More than 1,500 high school students from across the country are expected to take part in Central Electric Cooperative’s free annual trip to Washington, D.C., this summer.

Youth Tour 2018, set for June 10-15, includes visits to the Newseum, Arlington National Cemetery, Mount Vernon, Iwo Jima Sunset Parade, National Cathedral, Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum, Smithsonian, National Zoo, a Kennedy Center production and the Holocaust Museum, and a Potomac River boat cruise.

All high school juniors who reside in a home receiving electric service from Central Electric are eligible to apply for the trip by completing the application requirements either through their school guidance counselor or visiting www.central.coop.

Central Electric Cooperative has about 25,000 members in portions of Allegheny, Armstrong, Butler, Clarion, Forest, Mercer and Venango counties.

[naviga:h3]Pre-registration for Jeep festival starts Wednesday[/naviga:h3]

Pre-registration for the Bantam Jeep Heritage Festival will open at 10 a.m. Wednesday, the event’s organizers announced this week.

The annual festival is scheduled for June 8-10 in Butler and at Cooper’s Lake Campground in Worth Township.

New this year will be the “Bantam Proving Grounds Jeep Pull,” at which Jeep owners will attempt to pull a weighted sled, a Jeep Invasion after party at Recon Brewing in Center Township and a “Jeepardy” trivia contest.

Jeep owners and festival volunteers can register online from Wednesday to May 6 at www.bantamjeepfestival.com.
