Judges, courthouse officers sworn in
Nine public officials were administered the oath of office in the Butler County Courthouse on Tuesday.
Two Court of Common Pleas judges, three magisterial district judges and four other positions were sworn in by several members of the Butler County administration in Courtroom 1.
The Common Pleas judges that were retained by voters in the Nov. 7 election were Marilyn Horan and Kelley Streib. Magisterial District Judges that were re-elected included Kevin O'Donnell, Lewis Stoughton and Sue Haggerty. The other positions included Clerk of Courts Lisa Weiland Lotz, county Controller Benjamin Holland, county Coroner William Young III and Sheriff Michael Slupe, all of whom were re-elected.
They were presented with election certificates by Shari Brewer, director of elections.
President Judge Thomas Doerr said during his opening remarks that a lot has changed since 1992 when the new government center was opened, but what has not changed is the “spirit and pride of the residents of Butler County.”.
“The people are optimistic about our future,” he said. “We continue to reach out to make this county everything it can be.”
Horan was sworn in by county Judge William Shaffer, while Streib was then sworn in by Horan.
Magisterial District Judge William O'Donnell swore in his brother, Kevin O'Donnell, as the district judge for Butler Township. Haggerty was sworn in by Judge Michael Yeager.
Stoughton was the only member not in attendance, and had been sworn in earlier, according to Doerr.
Lotz was sworn in by Judge Timothy McCune, while Holland was sworn in by Streib, Young was sworn in by Doerr and Slupe was sworn in by Horan.
A reception provided by the Butler County Commissioners was held in Kiester Commons immediately following the ceremony.
The colors were presented by the Butler County Sheriff's Office Color Guard, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.
