A tanker truck loaded with 4,800 gallons of water flipped onto its driver's side Saturday, causing a long traffic tie-up while crews worked to clear the scene. The driver was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for evaluation of minor injuries.

OAKLAND TWP — A tanker truck loaded with 4,800 gallons of water flipped onto its driver's side Saturday morning, causing a long traffic tie-up while crews worked to clear the scene.

Paul Patten, assistant chief at the Oneida Valley Volunteer Fire Department, said the call came in just after 9 a.m.

He said firefighters and state police arrived to find the AIM Services truck cab on its side in a yard and the tank blocking the westbound lane of Route 68 across from O'Donnell's Car Wash.

Patten said the driver, whose age and name he did not know, was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital by East Butler EMS for evaluation of minor injuries.

AIMS Services personnel, assisted by firefighters, removed the water from the overturned tanker and loaded it into another AIMS truck that had been brought in.

Following the water removal, a large tow truck flipped the undrivable tanker upright and loaded it onto a flatbed.

Patten said the roads were clear at the time of the accident. He said the driver apparently got caught in the slush at the edge of the road and lost control of the vehicle.

Fire police from Oneida Valley VFD directed traffic while crews worked at the scene. Traffic was reduced to one lane at the car wash.

It was not known on Saturday if the driver was cited by police.
