Hearing needed on new charges
A Butler County judge ordered a new preliminary hearing on additional charges being sought against a woman charged with overdosing while seven months pregnant.
Judge William Shaffer issued the order late Wednesday stating that a new preliminary hearing will be held on the amended charges following a court hearing on the matter, in the case against Kasey R. Dischman, 30, who was initially charged with felony aggravated assault of an unborn child following her alleged June 22 overdose, which resulted in her baby being prematurely delivered.
Dischman was formally arraigned on that charge on Tuesday.
The Butler County District Attorney’s Office sought to include additional charges — misdemeanor endangering the welfare of children, corruption of minors and possession of a controlled substance — based on evidence that Dischman’s 6-year-old daughter was also present in the house at the time of the overdose, and that a hypodermic needle was found there.
The hearing will be held on Oct. 17 in Shaffer’s courtroom.
