ZELIENOPLE — Borough council continues to weigh the acceptance and rollout of a new edition of the property maintenance code, which would pertain to properties on Main Street.

Council has been reviewing the proposed changes and is now seeking public comment before voting to approve the plans.

Shelly Kaltenbaugh, the borough’s code enforcement and zoning officer, has been working closely with the council to fashion the ordinances and make the eventual rollout as smooth as possible.

“We can send a letter to the business and property owners 30 days before (the changes go into effect),” she said Monday.

Kaltenbaugh already has received several complaints about properties on Main Street.

Anyone who wants a quick inspection to ensure their property is up to code can contact the borough to make a request.

Borough officials also said they welcome public feedback and encourage business and property owners to reach out with views and opinions about property maintenance codes and enforcement.

Council will continue to discuss the issue at a future meeting.
