3rd man pleads in theft
A man, charged alongside three others, pleaded guilty in Butler County Court on Monday to charges related to a robbery incident in Slippery Rock Township.
Quatrell Jones, 25, of Johnstown pleaded guilty to misdemeanor conspiracy to theft, simple assault and possession of a controlled substance in two cases before county Judge William Shaffer. The plea agreement calls for 12 months of probation, restitution, fines and costs, when he is sentenced on Sept. 7.
Jones was charged along with Calvert W. Anderson Jr. of Johnstown, Robert J. Brown of Pittsburgh, and Julian Durden of Butler, after an incident Nov. 19, 2015, when the four were charged with robbing another man in his apartment at The Grove in Slippery Rock Township.
Anderson and Brown previously pleaded guilty to the same charges and are set to be sentenced in August. Durden is scheduled for a conference on Aug. 16.
All four, Slippery Rock University students at the time, were charged by state police with felony counts of burglary, robbery, conspiracy and theft by unlawful taking, and misdemeanor counts of simple assault, terroristic threats, recklessly endangering another person and harassment.
Police said the men allegedly broke into the apartment of Kessel Weber and held him and a friend at gunpoint while allegedly stealing cash, a cell phone, marijuana and other items. Police said Weber identified Durden and Anderson. Durden and Anderson were on the SRU football team and were dismissed as a result of the charges; all four were banned from campus.
The four men also were charged stemming from items confiscated by police when searching their shared apartment in Slippery Rock Township. Jones and Durden each were charged with a count of felony possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, as well as misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. According to the criminal complaint, police found two bags of marijuana in a duffel bag with Durden's name on it and five plastic bags containing marijuana in a backpack with Jones' social security card in it. Several handguns also were found, police said.
