[naviga:h3]Ellis to host annual community night[/naviga:h3]

Rep. Brian Ellis, R-11th, is inviting district residents to an annual community night from 5 to 9 p.m. on Aug. 24 at the Butler Farm Show grounds.

The event will feature representatives from county, state and federal agencies, and there will be information available about programs throughout the district.

The community night also will include interactive activities like an inflatable bounce castle, fire trucks, a fishing derby, pony rides for children and a hot dog eating contest. Door prizes will be awarded and food will be available for purchase.

A fireworks display will begin at 9 p.m.

There is no fee to attend, but visitors are asked to bring a donation of a paper product or nonperishable food item for a local food bank.

[naviga:h3]Stormwater pipe project closes road[/naviga:h3]

CRANBERRY TWP — Burke Road will be closed to through traffic from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays starting Thursday.

The township public works department is installing new stormwater pipes and removing several large trees along a quarter-mile section of the road.

Burke Road will be closed at Peters Road to through traffic. Only local traffic will have access to Walden Pond, Chrystal Springs and Lakeview Estates. Traffic to the homes on the closed portion of Burke will be given access by traffic control personnel.

All other traffic will follow a posted detour, which includes parts of Franklin and Peters Road and the half-mile of Burke Road not under repair.

The work is anticipated to be complete by Aug. 25.
