BUTLER TWP — A township woman is accused of stealing a neighbor's pet rabbit. Call it a case of hare today, gone tomorrow.

Township police on Wednesday charged the alleged bunny bandit, 39-year-old Amy M. Raisley, with snatching the animal from an outdoor cage on July 21 at its owner's home on Highfield Road.

The owner on July 23 reported her white rabbit missing, according to a police report. She told officers that Raisley had recently taken an interest in the rabbit.

The victim also said she had received a text message that claimed the defendant had swiped the bunny. An officer eventually spoke to Raisley, who admitted taking the pet, police said.

The rabbit, valued at $40, was recovered unharmed and returned to its owner.

Raisley is charged with theft and receiving stolen property, both third-degree misdemeanors. Her preliminary hearing is set for Aug. 24 at the office of District Judge Kevin O'Donnell.
