Kaleidoscope of Fun 16th annual arts festival returns to SRU
SLIPPERY ROCK — The 16th annual Kaleidoscope Arts Festival begins today and runs through April 29 on the Slippery Rock University campus.
The festival showcases SRU's departments of dance, music, theater and art, as well as nationally and internationally known guest artists and community events.
The Kaleidoscope Children's Earth Day Celebration will take place from noon to 4 p.m. April 22 at the Robert A. Macoskey Center for Sustainable Systems, Education and Research, 247 Harmony Road.
This year's day-long community event will feature an interactive children's bike run, Bright Star Children's Theatre Company show followed by performances from the SRU Music Therapy Club and the New Castle Playhouse Mini Stars.
There will also be free arts and crafts, outdoor games, and a therapy dog activity, as well as Earth-friendly and interactive demonstrations with local sustainable vendors. Admission is free.
Other free activities during the festival include Emily Simons of the all-volunteer activist art group Beehive Design Collective weaving together tales in detailed black and white illustration; Gerard Tonti, an artist who paints with coffee and tea; performances by the Iron Toys Quartet and Pittsburgh Trombone Quartet; poetry readings; screening of the film “Many Beautiful Things;” a dance film festival; cajun music; and the Get Down Gang street dancers.
