Spring Tea gives a look into historic Zelienople house
ZELIENOPLE — One of the biggest fundraisers for the Zelienople Historical Society aims to bring people to the Matthew Dining Hall on Glade Run Lutheran Services’ campus. But, of course, the visit will include some historical information.
The annual Spring Tea fundraiser offers tea, snacks and people who can explain the significance of events and buildings in Zelienople. The event also includes raffle baskets.
Karen Hungerford, treasurer of Zelienople Historical Society, said the organization also builds up the event by having some of its members attend in period-appropriate dress, further adding to the evocative feel.
“It’s an old-fashioned Spring Tea. The ladies at the historical society do all the preparation,” Hungerford said. “Every table will have a theme and some of the ladies will come dressed up.”
Events like the Spring Tea are important to the historical society, Hungerford said, so the organization can continue sharing the stories of the Passavant House and the Buhl House with visitors.
“We literally raise money through fundraising events like the tea … in order to keep the house and Buhl House open so the public can learn about the rich histories of Zelienople,” Hungerford said. “We're just keeping them open and sharing the history.”
The Spring Tea takes place from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 18, at the Matthew Dining Hall, 425 W. Beaver St., Zelienople. Tickets for the event are $25 each, and can be purchased by calling 724-452-9457, or by emailing zeliehistory@zoominternet.net.
