Bartramian Audubon Society is offering a birding field trip to Elk County (call 724-496-4856) on Oct. 8. The trip is free, but participation is limited.

Jennings Environmental Education Center, Route 528, Brady Township, will host “Nature Detectives: The Fungus Among Us” from 2 to 4 p.m. Oct. 2; registration is required by Sept. 30. Call 724-794-6011.

McConnells Mill State Park, Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County off Route 422, will host the 24th annual Heritage Festival, celebrating the operational time of the historic gristmill from 1852 to 1928, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Activities will include crafts and demonstrations, a regional art sale, bluegrass music, a Civil War encampment, and free tours of the mill. Admission and parking are free. Call 724-368-8811.

McKeever Environmental Learning Center, 55 McKeever Lane, Sandy Lake, will host its 14th annual Nature Art Show from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free. Call 724-376-1000.

A Star Party sponsored by the Amateur Astronomers Association of Pittsburgh is to begin at 7:15 p.m. Saturday, weather permitting, at the Nicholas E. Wagman Observatory in Deer Lakes Regional Park near Russellton. Call 724-224-2510.
