Terry Getsay
Terry Michael Getsay, 69, of Export, formerly of Zelienople and Evans City, passed away Tuesday at home in the presence of his family, following a battle with cancer.
Born Dec. 24, 1946, he was a 1965 graduate of Seneca Valley High School. He received his bachelor's degree in criminology from Slippery Rock College and his master's degree in public administration from Sangamon State University in Springfield, Ill. From 1965 to 1969, Terry was a machinist mate E5 in the U.S. Navy on the USS Taussig DD-746, stationed in San Diego, Calif.
During his years in the Navy, Terry went to Hong Kong, Japan, Australia, Philippines and Vietnam, during the Vietnam War.
Following his years in the service, he was a patrolman and civilian firearms expert with the Grove City Police Department for six years. He was an analyst with the Division of Criminal Investigation for the State of Illinois in Springfield, Ill., for six years and an analyst with the National Drug Intelligence Center in Johnstown, Pa., for three years.
In addition to years in law enforcement, he embraced his passion for cooking and became the concessionaire at the Marina Restaurant at Moraine State Park and caterer for several years. In the later years of his life, Terry pursued his passion for landscaping as an entrepreneur.
Terry will be remembered for his devotion and pride in having a perfectly landscaped yard, creating breakfasts in grand style and his love for his church, his family and his dog.
Terry is survived by his wife, Carol; his daughter, Teri and her husband, Chris, of Butler; his son, Shane and his wife, Bonnie, of Evans City; his sister, Debra of Schuylkill Haven, Pa.; his stepdaughter, Jody and her husband, Greg of Export; his stepson, Jeff of Export; his grandson, Travis of Butler; his stepgranddaughters, Stephanie and her husband, Zac of Cranberry Township and Calista and Tierney of Export; and his stepgreat-grandchildren, Karter and Kyler of Cranberry Township.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Louise (Palmer) and Hank White; his stepbrother, Stephen White; and several aunts and uncles.
