Alvin Lee Swain

Alvin Lee Swain, 59, of Butler passed away Friday at his home.

He was born Feb. 20, 1957, in East Liverpool, Ohio, to Stella (Nusser) Milocik and the late Larry Lee Swain.

Alvin was a member of the First United Methodist Church Crossfire Campus. He worked as an EMT, a radio announcer and a truck driver.

Alvin was a veteran of the U.S. Marines Corps, serving during the Vietnam War.

He was a past commandant of the Bantam Marine Corps League Detachment 743, the American Legion Post 117 and the East Butler Firemen's Club. Alvin enjoyed fishing, boating, camping, the outdoors and especially his grandkids.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy (Panei) Swain; two sons, Matthew Swain and his wife, Rebecca, of East Butler and Mark Swain and his partner, Lorena, of Butler; five grandchildren, Nevaeh, Morgan, Nathan, Nicholas and Carter; his mother and stepfather, Stella and George Milochik of Monaca; one brother, William Hartley and his wife, Tracy, of Aliquippa; three sisters, Donna Gulish and her husband, John, of Beaver Falls, Brenda Adams and her husband, Bob, of Aliquippa, and Ruth Ann Canfield of Arizona; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Tomasina Swain; and his stepfather, William Hartley.

SWAIN — Friends of Alvin Lee Swain, who died Friday, April 29, 2016, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Crossfire Campus, 1802 N. Main St. Ext., Butler, with the Rev. Robert Gilchrist of Crossfire and the Rev. Larry T. Coltura of the Medi Home Hospice officiating.The Bantam Marine Corps League Detachment 743 will provide military honors at the church following the service.Private burial will take place at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to in care of the family in c/o Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 E.
