Helen Yankowski, 93, of Dover, Mass., passed away peacefully in her sleep April 10.

Helen was a very gentle and energetic homemaker who frequently baked for her family, friends and neighbors, regularly mowed two acres on her John Deere tractor, gardened significantly and loved all children.

Born in Butler, she was the second youngest of five children of Vendel and Vincencia Miseyka, who immigrated through Ellis Island around World War I. The children were named Irene, Mary, Frank and William, and all have passed.

Helen grew up on Zeigler Avenue, Butler, followed by 214 W. Cunningham St. She enjoyed childhood romps with her dog, Trixie. She worked short-term at Offut's Department Store and Armco Steel, until she was married. She graduated from Butler High School.

She married Mitchel Nov. 5, 1946, at St. Paul, lived on West Penn Street, took a short-term apartment with Mitch at her parents for a few years and gave birth to her only child, Carl, in 1948.

Carl is married to Patricia and has lived near Boston since graduating from MIT in 1970. Mitch attended Texas A&M, worked at Armco Steel and was a Butler Township commissioner.

In 1952, Helen and Mitch designed and built their own home at 228 Home Ave., where they lived most of their lives.

YANKOWSKI— The life of Helen Yankowski, who died Sunday, April 10, 2016, will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday with a funeral Mass at Saint Paul's Roman Catholic Church in Butler, her parish for most of her life.The Mass will be immediately followed by interment at Butler's Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum off North Main Street, where she will join her husband, Mitchel Carl Yankowski, who died in 1998.In lieu of flowers, donations in Helen's name can be made to the Alzheimer's Association.To share a memory of Helen, please visit www.eatonfuneralhomes.com.
