Quad accident traps woman in Clearfield
CLEARFIELD TWP — A woman was trapped under her side-by-side quad vehicle Tuesday on her property at 390 Game Reserve Road.
The woman was trying to retrieve cows who had escaped when she took a sharp turn that caused the quad to tip over on the driver’s side. She fell off, and the quad trapped her foot.
The East Butler Volunteer Fire Department responded to the call.
“She was in pain and complaining of numbness in her legs,” said assistant Fire Chief Kevin Hesidenz. “Due to the weight of the vehicle, it was cutting the circulation off.”
Upon arrival, it took six firefighters about 5 to 10 minutes to use airbags from the fire engine to lift the quad off the woman’s foot and cut the quad’s roll cage to get her out of the quad.
“Everything was going smooth,” Hesidenz said. “The guys went right to work and did a good job.”
While her foot is expected to be OK, the woman had serious head and arm injuries and was flown by helicopter to UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh.
State police assisted.
