State police open new hiring cycle
Pennsylvania State Police opened a new selection cycle for prospective state troopers, the first of four cadet classes included in the 2026-27 state budget, according to a Wednesday, Oct. 1, news release.
While not all four classes will be hired this cycle, the budget contains $16.2 million to add about 380 troopers. Applications for the current hiring cycle must be submitted to the state hiring website by Nov. 27.
Cadet training lasts about 28 weeks and includes coursework in the state’s crime and vehicle codes, physical fitness activities and training in police vehicles, firearms and specialized equipment.
Cadets are promoted to the rank of trooper after completing the PSP Academy. After five years of service, they can earn about $103,319, according to the news release.
Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED certificate and a valid driver’s license from any state. Applicants must be at least 20 years old. PSP Academy participants must be between 21 and 39 years old.
