Death ruled accidental
SLIPPERY ROCK TWP — Investigators have determined that a township woman died of injuries suffered in a one-vehicle accident Sunday afternoon.
Nicole A. McPherson, 41, was killed when she lost control of her minivan about 3:10 p.m. and struck a tree in the 200 block of Branchton Road in Slippery Rock Township.
McPherson died of “blunt force trauma to the chest and trunk,” Mercer County Deputy Coroner Robert Snyder said in a statement issued Monday. The manner of death is listed as accidental.
Authorities did not immediately know if she died of a medical emergency that was not related to the crash.
An autopsy was not conducted, Snyder said, and standard toxicology tests are pending. Investigators said there was no indication that alcohol or drugs was a factor.
State police said McPherson was traveling east when she lost control of her 2006 Chrysler Pacifica and crossed over the westbound lane on Branchton Road just east of Harmony Road.
The van traveled into a home’s front yard and hit a tree head on.
There were no apparent skid marks to indicate that she tried to brake before the van left the road, authorities said.
Slippery Rock Volunteer Fire Company and Rescue crews said McPherson was unresponsive when they got there. She was wearing a seat belt.
She was taken to the Grove City Medical Center and pronounced dead at 4:03 p.m.
McPherson worked for the SGA Bookstore on the Slippery Rock University campus. She was an apparel buyer for the bookstore, which is owned by the Student Government Association.
