Helen K. “Mom” Mauk Doverspike
Helen K. “Mom” Mauk Doverspike, 95, of Evans City passed away peacefully with her two sons by her side on Easter Sunday of natural causes.
She was born March 8, 1921, to Malcom and Mary Manner Mauk, in Coolspring, Pa.
Helen was the wife of the late Gerald C. “Pop” Doverspike for 61 years until his passing Oct. 30, 2003.
Helen was a member of English Lutheran Church Zelienople, where she was active in many functions.
Together, they took care of hundreds of children at the Lutheran Children's Home in Zelienople for many years. Through her loving care, she became “Mom” to many of them.
Helen was an avid gardener, and she enjoyed bowling, knitting and most of all, her family. She and her husband delivered for Meals on Wheels for many years.
She will be missed dearly by many including, her family, extended family, friends and neighbors. She was a friend to all and always lent a hand to those in need.
Like her husband, this quote sums up the riches and value of her life: “To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.” — Ralph Waldo Emerson.
Helen succeeded in all of these. Hers was a life well lived.
She was preceded in death by two brothers.
She is survived by two sons, David A. Doverspike of Conroe, Texas, and Thomas E. “Tom” (Tina) Doverspike of Pittsburgh; her grandchildren, Joshua Doverspike of Denver, Colo., and Mrs. Casey (Melissa) Knudson of Castle Rock, Colo.; and her great-grandchildren, Piper, Ozzie, Madison and Delaney.
