DA probes use of voter rolls

The Butler County District Attorney’s office is looking into a complaint about improper use of voter rolls.

District Attorney Richard Goldinger said his office is investigating county Commissioner Jim Eckstein’s complaint that Commissioner Bill McCarrier violated state law.

According to Eckstein, McCarrier is not permitted to use the list of registered voters for surveys on senior center use.

The county Area Agency on Aging used the voter information for survey seniors in an effort to maximize its services.

One proposal is reducing the number of centers to as few as two. There are 10 sites now.

Eckstein, who opposes any major center consolidation, listed an item in the state code that indicates voter rolls can only be used for campaigning or by law enforcement.
