City man allegedly threatens to kill woman

He's charged with unlawful restraint

A Butler man is jailed on charges he threatened to kill a former girlfriend and her children and “blow up her car” after holding them for a day inside their Shore Street apartment, city police said.

Police on Saturday night arrested the suspect, 29-year-old Joshua D. Norris, but not before he tried a getaway out a second-floor window at the woman’s home.

Norris is charged with trespass, unlawful restraint, false imprisonment, terroristic threats and simple assault. He also is accused of violating the woman’s protection from abuse order. He is in Butler County Prison on $60,000 bail.

Police initially were called about 11 p.m. Saturday to Butler Memorial Hospital where the 25-year-old victim had gone for treatment of her injuries. She reported being attacked by Norris, an ex-boyfriend.

The alleged attack started about 11:30 p.m. Friday at her home in the 400 block of Shore Street where Norris struck her in the face.

The next day, according to a police report, Norris “took her cell phone, locked her and her two children in a bedroom at their residence and threatened to kill her and her children and blow up her car.”

About noon Saturday the woman managed to escape and notified relatives.

Officers reported the woman had several injuries including to her face and eyes.

Her children were not hurt.

Police went to the woman’s home about 11:30 p.m. and found it was dark inside.

Officers forced entry as Norris was trying to get out an upstairs window.
