Jackson Twp. OKs site for store
JACKSON TWP — The site where a new Murphy Tractor store will be built was approved for development Thursday night by the township supervisors.
The property just north of Indian Brave Campground on the east side of Route 19 is owned by the Creative Real Estate Development Co.
The plans include construction of a 44,000-square-foot store and a 6,000-square-foot cold storage shed.
Company President Tom Udland said in an e-mail the store in Cranberry Township will be relocated to Jackson.
The company plans to complete construction by February 2016.
The Cranberry location on Route 19 near the intersection of Dutilh Road has been open since 2011.
Murphy Tractor, which is a dealer of John Deere Tractors, has 28 locations across the country and is based in Kansas.
Also at their meeting, the supervisors voted to lower the speed limit and weight limit on Fanker Road because of its deteriorating condition.
As recommended by Police Chief Terry Seilhamer, the supervisors voted to temporarily change the speed limit from 35 to 15 mph and to reduce the weight limit to 5 tons from 10 tons.
School buses and emergency vehicles still will be permitted, but any other vehicles larger than a pickup truck will not be allowed, Seilhamer said.
The state vehicle code allows the temporary change because the township plans to repave the road and to relocate a portion of it.
The stretch of road closest to Route 19 will be relocated north so it will line up with Wise Road and form a four-way intersection.
Officials hope to have the work done by midsummer, and then the weight and speed limits would return to normal.
