Firefighter, 18, critical after porch collapses

CLEARFIELD — An 18-year-old firefighter remained in critical condition after being trapped beneath a porch roof that collapsed during a blaze at a central Pennsylvania home.

Jeff Buck is a senior at Clearfield Area High School and a member of the Lawrence Township Fire Company.

The couple that owned the home escaped with only minor injuries after the fire began about 9 a.m. Tuesday in their living room. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Buck was one of three firefighters on the porch when the roof collapsed. The other two were treated and released for minor injuries.

Buck was flown to UPMC Altoona hospital, where he remained in critical condition today.

Several other fire companies responded to the blaze which caused about $100,000 damage.
