Olcus

Leo A. Olcus, 87, of East Brady, Bradys Bend Township, Armstrong County, went to be with the Lord on Thursday at ACMH Hospital in Kittanning.

Leo was born on Feb. 25, 1926, in Kaylor. He was the son of John J. and Dorothy E. Sheakley Olcus.

Leo attended Kaylor School.

Mr. Olcus was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was wounded in combat in Germany and was a Purple Heart recipient.

Mr. Olcus was employed as a welder at the Indspec Chemical Co. in Petrolia for many years and retired in 1988.

He was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Chicora. He was lifetime member of the Sugarcreek Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the American Legion Post 488 at Bradys Bend, the Kaylor Camp and the District 2 Trappers Association. He was an avid hunter and trapper, and he enjoyed harvesting ginseng and watching sports on TV.

He is survived by his wife, Irene Brown Olcus, who he married in Rimersburg on July 1, 1950.

He is also survived by four children, Richard Olcus and his wife, Susan, Dan Olcus and his wife, Vickie, all of East Brady, Shirley Hillwig and her husband, Boyd, of Chicora and Kathy Olcus of Fairfax, Va.; four grandchildren, Ed Ross, Danielle Hillwig Doheny, Kasey Olcus and Erica Hillwig; and three great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Ruth Delaney of Leeper and Marian McKenzie of Chicora; one brother-in-law, Harry Griffiths of East Brady; one sister-in-law, Rebecca Olcus of Cabot; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Leo was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Olcus and James Olcus; and one sister, Doris Griffiths.

OLCUS — Friends of Leo A. Olcus, who died Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Hile Funeral Home of Karns City, 128 Main St., Karns City, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church 2217 Chicora Road, Chicora, where a funeral service will be at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Joseph Boomhower, church pastor, officiating.Military honors accorded by the Bradys Bend and Chicora American Legion and the Chicora VFW will follow at the church.Interment will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Sugarcreek Township, Armstrong County.Veterans will conduct a memorial service at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Members of the Sugarcreek Volunteer Fire Department will conduct a memorial service at 6:45 p.m. at the funeral home.
