Trooper's condition is upgraded to fair
EAST FRANKLIN TWP — A state police trooper, injured seriously Wednesday when a car hit him as he cleared debris from the ramp from Route 422 onto Route 28, was in fair condition at UPMC Presbyterian as of Friday afternoon.
According to a statement released Friday by state police, Sgt. Kenneth Markilinski suffered injuries to his head and back, but does not appear to have any broken bones. He still is being evaluated by doctors.
Markilinski serves as station commander of the Gibsonia barracks.
Police still are seeking the hit-run driver who struck Markilinski, and who was believed to be driving a dark-colored passenger vehicle. The car has damage to its front, on the driver’s side. The crash happened about 6:45 a.m.
After the accident, Markilinski was taken to nearby ACMH Hospital in the township before a medical helicopter flew him to UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh.
Police said Markilinski had stopped his cruiser on the berm of the southbound on-ramp to Route 28 and appeared to have been thrown over the car when he was struck, landing on the grass median.
Anyone with information or who might have witnessed the crash should call police at 724-543-2011.
