10:06 p.m. Saturday — Jeffrey H. Dantzler, 37, was arrested after he allegedly assaulted his girlfriend, 29-year-old Valetta Luich, during a domestic dispute at their West Campbell Street home. Dantzler is charged with simple assault.5:21 p.m. Saturday — Robert F. Novak, 59, of Butler was arrested for driving under the influence at West Penn Street and Miller Avenue. Novak was cited for careless driving.1:38 p.m. Saturday — Jason L. Best, 25, of Summit Township was caught allegedly shoplifting $130 in jewelry from the Kmart in Pullman Square. Best is charged with felony retail theft since he has two prior arrests for the same crime.When officers searched Best, they allegedly found six burned marijuana joints in a cigarette pack. He also is charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana.7:04 p.m. Friday — Michael W. Roman, 34, of Butler faces a criminal charge after he suffered an apparent drug overdose on West Cunningham Street. Police found him lying unconscious in a parking lot. Next to him was an empty stamp bag of suspected heroin.A paramedic treating Roman found a syringe in his pants pocket. An officer found six more empty stamp bags in the same pocket.Paramedics gave Roman the drug naloxone, known by its trade name, Narcan, which commonly is used to neutralize the effects of heroin, and he awakened. He was later taken to Butler Memorial Hospital. He is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.3:42 p.m. Friday — An 11-year-old Butler boy was hurt when a sport utility vehicle hit him as he walked across South Street at Donaghy Avenue. Devon Stephens was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.The driver, Jason Zach, 31, of Summit Township, told police he momentarily took his eyes off the road. When he saw Devon on the road, he swerved his vehicle but the passenger side mirror hit the boy. Zach was cited for driving with a suspended license.6:33 p.m. Tuesday — John W. Petrarulo, 27, of Butler was charged with trespass at the Kmart in Pullman Square. The store on April 30 had barred Petrarulo from the premises.5:17 p.m. Tuesday — Robert L. Plyler Jr., 22 is accused of firing a BB gun from the porch of his East Locust Street home. Police searched Plyler and found him with two suspected marijuana pipes and a small container of suspected marijuana.Plyler is charged with the unlawful discharge of an air rifle, and possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.2:32 p.m. Tuesday — An unidentified older model, blue Ford Explorer ran a stop sign and struck the driver's side rear bumper of a U.S. Postal Service van at East Penn and North Monroe streets. The unknown heavy set woman driving the SUV did not stop and kept traveling north on North Monroe Street. The mail van had $1,000 in damage.
Sunday — Police are cautioning residents about another phone scam making the rounds, this one involving a purported lottery sweepstakes. An 81-year-old Summit Township man lost $7,000 in the latest case that occurred between April 25 and Sunday.Police said the unknown suspect told the elderly man he had won a large prize. He was told he needed to provide his banking account and personal information so the “winnings” could be deposited into his account.The victim further compiled with the scammer's instructions and sent $7,000 to a New York City address for supposed “tax purposes” and “processing fee.”Investigators said as part of this particular scam, the suspect or suspects are using the company names U.S. Sweepstakes, American Sweepstakes Promotions, Lloyd's of London and Gaming, Betting and Lottery Sweepstakes Association.Police again remind residents not to give out personal information to anyone over the telephone.2:01 a.m. Saturday — Michael Pears Jr., 29, of Chicora was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence on Route 38 north of Kuhn Road in Concord Township. Pears was placed in the Butler County Prison after he was found to be wanted on a warrant from Luzerne County.10:33 p.m. Friday — A car driven by a 17-year-old Butler boy, who police did not identify, crashed over an embankment and struck several trees along Route 8 in Slippery Rock Township. Another 17-year-old boy and a 15-year-old Portersville girl were riding in the car. No one was hurt. The teen driver was cited for driving at an unsafe speed.8:30 a.m. Thursday — A 15-year-old Slippery Rock boy allegedly brought alcohol to Moniteau High School in Cherry Township. He gave it to a 17-year-old Eau Claire boy, who consumed a small amount. Police did not identify the youths.The younger boy faces a charge of furnishing alcohol to a minor. The older boy, faces a citation for underage drinking10:54 p.m. Wednesday — Derek R. Maziarz, 18, of Butler was hurt when the car he was driving struck a tree along West Road south of Valencia Road in Forward Township. Maziarz, who was not wearing a seat belt, was taken to UPMC Passavant Cranberry with minor injuries. He was cited for a lane violation and not wearing a seat belt.7:20 a.m. Tuesday — One person was hurt in a two-vehicle collision at Route 356 and Caldwell Drive in Jefferson Township.The crash happened when a sport utility vehicle driven by Daphne M. Spohn, 36, hit a car driven by Critsa M. Ross, 33, both of Butler. Ross, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered a minor injury.Spohn was cited for a stop sign violation.11:39 p.m. Feb. 23 — Marian R. Prelosky, 53, of Pittsburgh was arrested for suspicion of DUI on Interstate 79 in Lancaster Township.
5:30 p.m. Friday — A fire caused more than $100,000 damage to a building at 1416 Sandy Lake Road in Wolf Creek Township. The fire marshal's office is investigating the cause of the fire, and where it started.A police report said William Coulter of Grove City owns the building. David A. Schafer of Grove City is listed at the building's tenant.Anyone with information about the fire is asked to call the fire marshal at 724-598-2211.
April 26 — Daniel E. Burns, 29, of Harmony was arrested for driving under the influence stemming from a 2:32 a.m. April 10 traffic stop at Route 488 and Pleasant Hill Road in Perry Township. Burns also is cited for careless driving, disregarding traffic lanes, failing to keep right, driving without insurance, not carry his car registration card and not wearing a seat belt.
