Nagy

Roger Sylvester Nagy, 58, of Hamilton, Mont., passed away Feb. 1. He is formerly of Freeport.

He was born in Natrona Heights, April 8, 1951, to Alexander and Bernice Marie (Perkins) Nagy.

Before Roger moved out west, he attended Butler County Community College. He also attended the Butler County Junior Conservation School and was a staff member well into the 1970s.

He lived in Montana for 30 some years, traveling from Pennsylvania to Montana in the early 1970s. He lived in Corvallis, Mont., and traveled between Alaska and Montana trapping.

His home in Corvallis was where the Corvallis Post Office now is. During the 1970s and 1980s, he ran a trapline with sled dogs in the Black River area. He also worked on the Alaska Pipe Line. During the 1990s, he was one of the last elk herders for the Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks.

Three years ago during one of the coldest temperatures on record, Roger was snowbound in the Wisdom area for 10 days in his vehicle during minus 45 degree weather with his dog, Hyshum. He was eventually found by search and rescue.

He is survived by his son, Alex Nagy, and his daughter, April Nagy, both of Corvallis; his sister, Susan (Bill) McCullough and his brother, Ronald (Marlene) Nagy, both of South Buffalo Township.
