NEW KENSINGTON, Westmoreland County — A Lower Burrell woman who is a teacher in the South Butler School District faces two felony charges of aggravated assault.

Lisa Baker, 42, was taken from her home to Allegheny Valley Hospital for evaluation after the April 9 incident.

Lower Burrell police and paramedics first were called to Mintwood Drive because Baker's boyfriend, who also lives at the same address, said the defendant was threatening suicide. When officers arrived, the boyfriend showed police several threatening text messages and said Baker had been in bed for three days, police said in court documents.

Baker later told police she had not taken her medication for several days and was upset because she had an upcoming hearing involving her ex-husband, police said.

Police several times tried to persuade Baker to take herself to the hospital for a psychiatric evaluation, but she refused, according to police. Finally, police told Baker they would have her boyfriend admit her to the hospital.

That's when, according to court documents, Baker became "aggressive and combative" with police. She tried to hit one officer with a closed fist and shove another, police said. After a medic intervened, an officer used a Taser on Baker. She was then placed in handcuffs and taken by ambulance to Allegheny Valley where her boyfriend was to have her evaluated.

Baker is listed as a home school visitor for Knoch High School. A district official confirmed Baker is still employed by the district.

An attorney listed for Baker did not return a telephone call.

Police April 14 charged Baker with the felonies as well as resisting arrest and harassment. She is scheduled for a June 15 preliminary hearing with District Judge Cheryl J. Peck-Yakopec.
