Mortimer

Malcolm Brent "Bud" Mortimer, 80, of Acme Street, Rimersburg, passed away at 12:57 p.m. Friday at UPMC Northwest in Seneca, Venango County.

Born April 10, 1929, in Rimersburg, he was the son of the late Claude H. and Verna L. (Wiant) Mortimer.

After graduating from Union High School, Bud joined the U.S. Navy Seabees in 1946 and served two years in Trinidad before being discharged in 1950.

He was part owner of M&S Trucking before joining Bracken Construction Co. of Sligo. He retired from Bracken's in 1994 after 32 years.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He loved dancing and enjoyed bowling and long walks. In his later years, driving his golf cart to visit friends and relatives was a favorite pastime. He also was a lover of animals.

His family admired the way he maintained his sense of humor and positive outlook on life throughout his long illness.

He was married July 19, 1952, to Josephine A. Salvo, who preceded him in death in 1994.

He is survived by his son, Joseph Brent Mortimer and his companion, Sue Hempel, of Rimersburg; and his daughter, Terri Lea Jack and her husband, Thomas, of Danville, Ind. At the time of his death, he had lived with his dear friend and companion, Gwendolyn Traister, for the past 12 years.

Also surviving are his sister, Janet Lynn Whitson and her husband, Frank, of Beverly, Mass.; a grandson, Michael Brent Mortimer of Coraopolis; a granddaughter, Lena A. Matteson and her husband, Trent, of Butler; and two great-grandchildren, Keaton T. Matteson and Ashlyn Lenae Matteson, also of Butler. He also leaves three step-grandchildren, Kara Jack Bungo and her husband, Patrick, of Franklin, Mark Jack and his companion, Rachel Jones, of Danville, Ind., and Matthew Jack of Danville, Ind., and a step-great-granddaughter, Allisyn Alexis Jack, also of Danville, Ind.

In addition to his wife and parents, Bud was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Mortimer Saville; his dear friend and brother-in-law, Angelo F. Salvo; and a niece, Kelly Salvo Morey.

<B>MORTIMER</B> — In accordance with the wishes of Malcolm Brent "Bud" Mortimer, who died Friday, April 2, 2010, there will be no visitation. A private memorial service will be planned for later by his family.
