Today — Police reported Rodney McClain, 49, of Butler is charged with breaking into his cousin's home on Wilson Avenue last week and stealing a 32-inch flat-screen television and a Nintendo Wii video game system.Officers spoke with McClain, who initially denied being involved in the April 26 burglary or stealing the property valued at $1,100. Neighbors, however, told investigators they had seen McClain carrying a flat-screen TV that day, according to a police reportPolice also learned the defendant had allegedly tried to sell the stolen items. Police said McClain is charged with burglary, theft and receiving stolen property.10:16 p.m. Saturday — Matthew C. McCracken, 23, of Butler is accused of drug charges soon after passing out apparently from a heroin overdose in the bathroom at an East Jefferson Street convenience store.Police were called to the store, but by the time they got there, the suspect had fled. Officers a short time later found McCracken hiding under a car in the parking lot of a North Monroe Street business.A police report said officers found him with two stamp bags of suspected heroin and a recently used syringe. McCracken is charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, and public drunkenness.
Thursday — Someone between Tuesday and Thursday stole a two-piece concrete bird bath from the yard of a Maple Street home. The property is valued at $30.State Police, Butler11 a.m. Saturday — Five suspected thieves broke into the Siegel Limestone Plant on Hasenflu Road in Parker Township and stole scrap metal. The suspects, who were spotted by a neighbor, later took the scrap to Clarion County where it was sold at a scrap yard for $900.Investigators said they know at least three of the suspects, all described as white males. Police said the investigation continues.5:18 a.m. Saturday — Michael W. Kane, 43, of Kittanning was hurt when the motorcycle he was driving collided with a pickup on Route 8 at the Kwik-Fill on Route 8 in Center Township. Kane was flown by medical helicopter to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh with moderate injuries. Jeffrey W. Hall, 49, of Butler was driving the pickup.Saturday — Cody Allen Isaacson, 18, of Slippery Rock Township was arrested after allegedly attacking a woman with a hammer during an altercation on Branchton Road in Slippery Rock Township.The woman, who police did not identify in a news release, suffered undisclosed injuries when she was hit with the hammer between 10 and 15 times on the head, arm, hand and stomach.Isaacson was arraigned on charges of aggravated assault, simple assault and harassment, and placed in the Butler County Prison.Friday — An unknown burglar broke a water line, which flooded a basement, during a break-in at a Forrester Road home in Slippery Rock Township. The burglary happened between April 15 and Friday.10:22 a.m. Thursday — Donald G. Hickey, 39, of Butler and William M. White, 19, of Toronto, Ohio, are accused of stealing scrap metal from property on Route 8 in Center Township. The scrap was worth less than $20. Both men are charged with theft and conspiracy.9:30 p.m. April 25 — A car driven by Ariel L. McCollums, 23, of Petrolia struck a utility pole along Apple Road near Aspen Road in Fairview Township. Police said McCollums was cited for driving at an unsafe speed.12:20 a.m. April 24 — Darin Gillott, 45, of Butler was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence on Whitestown Road in Butler Township.11:45 a.m. April 22 — No one was hurt in a four-vehicle, chain-reaction accident caused when a car driven by David N. Hibbard, 60, of Butler struck the back of another car on Mercer Road in Center Township.That collision caused the rear-ended car driven by Jason B. Blose, 25, of Cabot to hit the back of a sport utility vehicle driven by Clifford L. Cranmer, 65, of Butler, which in turn struck the rear of a car driven by Jacqueline Deless, 74, of Butler.Hibbard, police said, was cited for following too closely to another vehicle.
April 20 — Someone broke into Lamb & Webster on Route 173 near Interstate 80 in Pine Township. A police report did not say if any property was stolen in the burglary.
April 23 — Several metal items were stolen from the yard at a Shaffer Road home in Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County. The theft happened between March 23 and April 23.April 20 — Two lawn tractors worth a combined $700 were stolen between April 18 and 20 from a home at Route 422 and Church Road in Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County.
