Fallecker

Cletus J. Fallecker, 88, of Butler died Monday at Good Samaritan Hospice, Concordia Lutheran Ministries, in Cabot.

Born July 23, 1921, in Swissvale, he was son of the late Joseph and Rose (Hoag) Fallecker.

He had been a supervisor at the Armco Steel Plant in Butler, retiring in August 1982.

He was a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Butler and was a life member of the Butler City Hunting and Fishing Club, the Happy Hunters Sportsmen's Club in Fenelton, the East Butler Fireman's Club, the Chicora Moose Lodge 962, the American Legion Post 117 in Butler, the VFW Post 7876 in Chicora and the NRA.

Cletus enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, playing cards, playing slot machines, and going on trips to the casino.

A veteran of World War II, he had served in the U.S. Army as a medic with the 158th Infantry Division. He spent 23 months in the South Pacific, where he took part in five beachhead landings, and he was awarded with four Arrow Heads. He also was awarded the Combat Medical Badge, a Bronze Star with 2 Arrowhead Clusters, the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon and a Good Conduct Medal.

Surviving are his wife, Marcella "Betty" (Young) Fallecker, who he married Nov. 29, 1941; two daughters, Marlene Steighner and her husband, Bernard, of Frederick, Va., and Brenda Vensel and her husband, Lenny, of Chicora; a daughter-in-law, Shirley Shurtleff and her husband, Robert, of Butler; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and a brother, Paul Fallecker, and his wife, Dolores, of Driftwood, Cameron County.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Richard J. Fallecker, who died in 1978, and Russell J. Fallecker, who died in 1999; a daughter, Virginia A. Fallecker, who died in 2008; seven brothers; and three sisters.

<B>Fallecker </B>— Friends of Cletus J. Fallecker, who died Monday, March 29, 2010, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the <B>Geibel Funeral Home,</B> 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 128 N. McKean St., Butler.
