Michael Patrick Koch Sr., 62, of Butler lost his nearly yearlong battle with lung cancer Wednesday surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Butler, Dec. 23, 1947, he was the son of Alice Chahine Koch and the late John M. Koch Sr.

A Vietnam veteran, Michael was a 1965 graduate of Butler High School.

Mike worked as the procurement and production manager for the Pennsylvania Association for Retarded Citizens Sheltered Workshop in Butler for many years. More recently, Mike was employed by Butler School District.

An avid sports fan, Mike loved watching the Steelers and Pirates and also enjoyed playing golf.

Mike is survived by his mother; his son, Michael Jr.; a brother, John (LaVerne) Koch of Gibsonia; and two sisters, Maureen (C. Craig) Koch-Lutz of Zelienople and Michelle Koch-Harbison of East Butler. He also is survived by five nephews and a niece, John (Heidi) Koch of Dingmans Ferry, Pike County, Benjamin and Heather Koch of Pittsburgh and Eric (Sujin) Hill and Matthew (Becky) Hill, all of California. Also surviving are three great-nephews, Joshua and Joey Koch and Jack Hill.

<B>KOCH</B> — Friends of Michael Patrick Koch Sr., who died Wednesday, March 24, 2010, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B> 201 East Cunningham Street in Butler. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday from St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Butler with Father. Steven Neff, pastor officiating. Entombment will follow at Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum.The St. Paul Guild and Christian Mothers will meet at 9:40 a.m. Monday at the church to recite the rosary.Information also is available at www.geibelfuneralhome.com.
