9:56 a.m. Sunday — A van driven by Diane Scholtz, 41, of Connoquenessing Township hit a guardrail and then collided with a truck on ice-covered Route 8 between Cooledge Street and Pepperland Boulevard. Robert Crawford, 61, of Butler was driving the truck.2:01 a.m. Sunday Brett D. McElroy, 22, of Saxonburg was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence at South Main and Cunninghamstreets. Police said McElroy also was cited for driving the wrong way on a one-way street.10:13 p.m. Saturday — Mannon Rose, 19, of Fenelton is accused of swinging a baseball bat at Nicholas Raffel, 21, of Butler during an altercation in the parking lot of a West Jefferson Street convenience store.A police officer on patrol came upon the disturbance and saw the driver of a pickup truck, later identified as Raffel, accelerate, "causing the rear tires to spin and fill the entire lot with smoke."When the smoke cleared Rose was gone, having left in a sport utility vehicle, police said. Raffel told police Rose had come after him with the bat, apparently due to an earlier disagreement.Raffel said he was afraid he was going to be hit with the bat so he got into the pickup and began spinning the tires to get away from Rose, according to a police report.Police said Rose is charged with simple assault and Raffel is charged with careless driving.

8:06 a.m. Thursday — Vehicles driven by Barbara Shearer, 57, and Brian Steighner, 37, both of Butler, collided at the snow-covered intersection of Homewood and Greenhill drives. Police said Shearer was cited for driving too fast for conditions.

2:05 p.m. Sunday — James Stephen Tripp, 19, of Ardara, Westmoreland County, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of a controlled substance at Interstate 79 and Route 108 in Worth Township.Police said Tripp also faces drug-related charges stemming from a bag of suspected marijuana and a glass pipe found in his vehicle.12:24 p.m. Sunday — Justin Michael Curry, 18, no address given, was injured seriously when he lost control of his pickup truck, crossed into opposing traffic and collided with a sport utility vehicle on Route 308 near Agges Road in Center Township.Curry, who was not wearing a seat belt, was taken to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh with "major injuries,"according to a police report; his condition was not known this morning.Dennis C. Tiche, 62, of Boyers, who was driving the SUV, was not hurt. The crash closed the road for about two hours. The Unionville Volunteer Fire Department and Butler Ambulance Service assisted police at the crash site.Saturday — Packages containing jewelry were taken from the mailbox at a Beblo Lane home in Oakland Township. The theft occurred between 12:30 and 5 p.m.

8:34 p.m. Friday — A car driven by Jessica L. Baker, 19, of Jefferson Hills, Allegheny County, hit a concrete barrier and then collided with another car on Interstate 80 in Allegheny Township, Butler County.Baker, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to Grove City Medical Center with moderate injuries. John J. Gavern III, 35, of Trenton, Ohio, was driving the other car.

9:25 p.m. Wednesday — A sport utility vehicle driven by Peter P. Walsh III, 51, of Pittsburgh and a car driven by Misty D. Null, 23, of New Castle collided on Route 208 and Holiday Boulevard. Null suffered a minor injury. Police said Walsh was cited for a stop sign violation and Null was cited for an inspection sticker violation.

5:17 p.m. Sunday — A sport utility vehicle driven by James Fyffe, 47, of Prospect rolled over and hit a tree after sliding off snow-covered Route 19 in Washington Township, Lawrence County. Fyffe suffered unknown injuries.
